Vangel was founded by the Androutsopoulos family and their leadership continues today. Vangel’s customers and staff benefit from the responsiveness and attention to detail that only onsite owner-managers can ensure.
Valerie S. Androutsopoulos, Principal
An International Affairs graduate from George Washington University (BA 1983), Valerie studied Greece’s accession to the European Community in Brussels, which lead to graduate work in Athens, Greece. There she met and subsequently married her husband Angelos, a partner in a family scrap paper business. Valerie spent five years in Athens during which time she was a purchasing agent for an airplane parts importer and served as the USO representative for the Sixth Fleet.
In 1988, the couple returned to Baltimore and founded Vangel Paper which specialized in developing office recycling programs for Baltimore businesses based on education and convenience. In subsequent years, the company expanded services to do much more than handle paper, hence, Vangel shortened its name and expanded its scope to include secure plant-based paper and non-paper data destruction, mobile paper shredding and electronics recycling. Vangel is a certified woman-owned business, certified by the Mobile Shredding Association and a BBB Accredited Business.
Angelos Androutsopoulos, President
Angelos, a native of Athens, Greece and computer programmer by training (NCR School of Computer Education 1981, Athens, Greece), agreed to move to America in 1988 with his wife and now business partner on the condition that they create a scrap paper business similar to the one his family owned in Greece.
Working at and growing up around Golfinos Androutsopoulos and Sons, his father’s business, Angelos gained first-hand knowledge of all aspects of running a family-owned company. Angelos has developed and continues to maintain valuable overseas market contacts.
